Car Mechanic Fixing a Vehicle

Ongoing maintenance and occasional repairs are an unfortunate reality for car owners. Every once in a while, even the most reliable vehicle is going to need to go to the shop for something. Most of the time, these repairs are fairly routine and expected. So, what kind of repairs might you have to get while owning your car? Well, no one can say for sure, but today we’ve compiled a list of some of the most common car repairs to give you an idea.

Loose or Missing Fuel Cap

This is one of the easiest fixes out there, but many people take their car to a mechanic not knowing about it. If your engine light turns on, check to see if your fuel cap is loose or missing. A loose or missing fuel cap allows gas to evaporate out of the tank, causing you to lose fuel efficiency in the process. This fix can be as simple as tightening your fuel cap or simply buying a new one. No big repairs or costs needed!

Catalytic Converter

Fixing a catalytic converter is, unfortunately, quite an expensive repair. Your catalytic converter is important though, so it’s worth the cost. It makes sure your car’s emissions system is working correctly. If a bad converter goes unchecked, it can eventually lead to engine failure. However, a full replacement isn’t always necessary. Sometimes it just needs to be cleaned, or a part needs to be replaced. Your mechanic will be able to give you a better idea of the condition of the catalytic converter and the extent of repairs that are needed.

Mass Air Flow Sensor

Replacing or repairing a mass airflow sensor is another component that can get a bit pricey, but it can be avoided with preventative maintenance. Many people forget to replace their air filters regularly, and doing that can lead to your mass airflow sensor having issues. This sensor tells your car how much fuel to give the engine by gauging how much air is being circulated. It’s definitely something that you’ll need to fix if it’s damaged.

Other Common Car Repairs

Here are some of the other common repairs:

  • Ignition coil/spark plug replacement
  • Thermostat replacement
  • Oxygen sensor replacement
