Common Traffic Violations

November 21st, 2018 by

No one wants to get a traffic ticket. You have to pay them, sometimes you have to show up in court, they can raise your insurance rate, and they add points to your driving record. Make sure you’re driving safe by avoiding these common traffic violations in today’s blog by Thompson Sales.

Speeding

Many people have received a speeding ticket. It’s one of the most common traffic violations you can get. Luckily, this one is easy to avoid, all you have to do is follow the speed limit! Although this is sometimes easier said than done, especially if you’re running late, it’s also for your safety and the safety of other drivers and pedestrians. Do yourself and your wallet a favor by following the speed limit at all times.

Running a Red Light

This is another violation that people commonly get when they’re in a rush. Many people actually speed up when they see a yellow light because they want to “make it” resulting in a ticket. If you see a light turn yellow, you should only go through it if slowing down would be dangerous. Also, a good tip to keep in mind is that yellow lights stay yellow for one second for every 10 miles the speed limit is. So if you’re on a 40mph road, the light will stay yellow for 4 seconds.

Reckless Driving

Reckless driving can apply to a variety of violations. If you’re swerving between lanes, riding the lines, or just generally driving in a way that could endanger others, you could get a reckless driving ticket. Often these tickets can happen because drivers are looking at their phone instead of the road. Avoid a reckless driving ticket by being alert and paying attention to the road.

Although all of these tickets are fairly common, they’re not too hard to avoid. Just drive safe and you’ll be fine!
