The Thompson Sales Team Offers Tips for Getting Out the Worst Food Stains

December 17th, 2017 by

At Thompson Sales, we know how rushed most of our customers are day-to-day. Almost every day involves having to get from A to B on time, so grabbing something to eat as you drive is extremely common — not to mention convenient! Unfortunately, it also makes your car’s interior vulnerable to stains. We’ve looked at a variety of different stains in a previous Thompson Sales blog, but now we’re going to go into a little more details. What are the worst food stains in your car’s interior? And how do you get them out? Read on to find out more.

Gum

While it doesn’t necessarily stain, gum is one of the worst things you can accidentally drop in your car once it’s been chewed. Even with leather seats, gum is going to stick. The longer it is until you find it stuck to a leather seat, a seat cover or a floor mat, the harder it is to get it off. There are several different methods of getting rid of gum. One of the most effective is using a bag of ice. Hold it against the gum for about five minutes until the gum hardens and can be removed — just make sure you do it soon.

Mustard and Condiments

Mustard and ketchup can be extremely hard stains to get out of any material. They’re also extremely common stains to find on in-car upholstery. We’ve all eaten a burger or fries or some other condiment-heavy fast food on a drive somewhere, and we all know how it easy it is to drop something mid-bite. Condiment stains are obvious and unsightly, and they can also be hard to get out. Thompson Sales’s team recommends mixing a teaspoon of liquid dish detergent in some warm water and then using this solution to scrub the area with the stain, before letting it dry.

Chocolate

Just like fast food, chocolate and candy are an easy grab-and-go snack for almost everyone. It can also result in some really stubborn stains. If you have kids frequently riding in your car, you probably have more than a few chocolate, caramel or other candy stains. Fortunately, for newer stains, the method the Thompson Sales team suggested for condiments above should work. For older stains, you’ll have to let the detergent sit on the stain for longer, and apply it multiple times.
